Pre-clinical and general surgical training was at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, qualifying in 1972. Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng.) from 1976.
Orthopaedic training was at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital with training in the Windsor group of hospitals and at Northampton General Hospital. Accredited Specialist in Orthopaedics at the RCS (Eng.) 1982.
Mr Vanhegan went into full-time Independent Practice in 1985 but continued doing locum consultant orthopaedic work in the Health Service at Ealing Hospital until 1988.
